Your safes are encrypted whatever you do. The settings in this guide add a second layer: a lock on the app itself, a recovery route that only works on your device, and the account details you control. Everything here lives under the Account tab.
Lock the app with an appcode
- Open Account › App password and biometrics.
- Choose Set appcode and pick six digits that only you know.
- Enter the same six digits again to confirm.
- Optionally enable biometric unlock. Your device only confirms that it is you. SafelyShare receives no biometric data.
- Save your one-time recovery code (see below) and confirm that you understand SafelyShare cannot retrieve it.
With the appcode on, SafelyShare locks immediately when you leave the app. With it off, your safe files stay encrypted, but anyone with access to this signed-in device can open the app.
The recovery code
During setup, SafelyShare shows a recovery code. It can replace a forgotten appcode once on this device. After you use it, SafelyShare creates a new code. Copy the code or save the file, then keep it outside SafelyShare in a password manager or a safe place at home.
SafelyShare cannot retrieve this code, and it does not work on another device. Do not share it with anyone.
Forgot your appcode
- On the lock screen, choose Forgot appcode?.
- Enter your one-time recovery code. Verification happens locally on the device.
- Choose a replacement appcode. The old one stops working.
- Save the new one-time recovery code to finish.
If you lose both the appcode and recovery code, you must erase the local data on this device to regain access to the app. This permanently removes local and received safes, previews, the appcode, the recovery code, and local keys. Safes you shared to other devices stay active. A reset does not revoke them.
Change or disable the appcode
On the same screen, Change appcode asks for your current code, then a new one twice; biometrics stay enabled and your existing recovery code stays valid until it is used. Disable appcode also verifies your current code first and warns you that SafelyShare will no longer lock automatically.
E-mail address and verification
Open Account › Profile to update your name. Your e-mail address is shown but cannot be changed in the app yet, because changing it requires verification. If your address is still unverified, the profile screen shows that, with a button to send the verification e-mail again after a short cooldown.
A verified address matters: it is where reminder e-mails and extend links arrive, and it is required before buying or restoring a subscription.
Notifications
Under Account › Reminder, choose App, Email, or App + email and set how many hours before unlocking the reminder arrives. Push notifications also need permission from your device. You can grant it during onboarding or later in your system settings.
Other settings worth a look
- Language. Follow the device language, or choose English or Dutch. Names and notes inside your safes are not translated.
- Appearance. Choose system, light, or dark for this device.
- Transfer. Choose whether this device receives safes over Wi-Fi or Bluetooth.
- Privacy and data, Help and safety, and Terms. Read what is stored and how to reach us.
Delete your account
- Export anything you want to keep first.
- Open Account › Delete account.
- Read the warning, tick I understand that my account cannot be recovered, and choose Permanently delete account.
Deleting your account revokes every safe you shared and permanently removes all local and received data for this account from this device. Recipients may keep contents they already opened or exported; exported copies on other devices cannot be recalled. Account, transfer, and timelock data are deleted according to the retention periods in the privacy policy.
Good to know
- The appcode and recovery code are stored locally on your device, not on our servers.
- Signing out is not the same as deleting: local safes stay encrypted on the device and your appcode stays active.
- In immediate danger or a medical emergency, contact local emergency services. We do not shorten an active timelock on request; support can only act on a safe in the rare, audited situations described in our terms.
