A safe starts as a private, locked folder on your own phone. Nothing is shared until you decide to share it, so take your time filling it. This guide shows both ways to fill one: the guided setup, or an empty safe you fill yourself.
Start a safe
- Open the Safes tab.
- Tap + in the top right.
- Choose Guided setup to answer a few questions per topic, or Empty safe to add everything yourself.
Under the header, Encrypted on this device shows when the safe was last updated. Everything you add is locked on the phone itself.
The guided setup
The first question is Who is this safe for? Choose My partner, My child, My parent, A friend, or Someone else, then fill in Their first name. The safe is named after them, for example For Noor.
After that, the guided setup walks you through one topic at a time and asks short questions. You answer in your own words, and each topic becomes a note in the safe. Skip any topic you do not need and add it later. The topics are:
- Where to start. The first things they should know.
- Phone and computer. How to get into your devices.
- Bank and money. Accounts, what they are for, who to ask.
- Insurance. Which policies you have and where they are.
- People to contact. Who can help, and with what.
- My wishes. What you would want, in your own words.
- Subscriptions and bills. What is paid every month, and how to stop it.
- Photos and documents. Pictures, scans and papers you want them to have.
Photos and documents gets a step of its own, Add photos or documents, where you pick them straight from your phone.
Ten minutes is usually enough for the first few topics. Stop whenever you like; what you wrote stays in the safe.
Add photos, files, and notes
Inside the safe, the contents section shows a count and a + button. Tap it to add:
- Gallery. Choose photos and videos from your device.
- Camera. Take a photo and add it directly to the safe.
- Files. Pick documents such as PDFs and scans.
- New note. Write text inside the safe.
- Add a topic. Start from the same questions the guided setup asks.
While files are being added, the menu shows Adding file 1 of 3 with a progress bar. Larger videos take a moment because each file is locked as it goes in.
Write a note
Notes are the right place for instructions, codes, wishes, and anything else that is easier to explain than to attach. The editor gives you a title and text blocks, with Paragraph, Heading 1, Heading 2, Bulleted list, and Numbered list, plus bold, italic, and links. Everything saves inside the safe; nothing is sent anywhere.
Name your safe
- Tap the gear icon in the top right to open Safe settings.
- Give the safe a clear name and, if useful, a description. A name such as "For Sam, house and insurance" prevents questions later.
- Tap Save changes.
The same screen has Duplicate safe and Delete safe. The actions button for each item offers edit for notes, share, and remove. Each label includes the item's name, for example Edit Insurance.
Good to know
- Safes that stay on this phone do not count toward the limit of 2 shared safes, so you can prepare as many as you like.
- Sharing hands over a separate locked copy. Changes you make afterwards do not travel to the other phone by themselves.
- A safe needs at least one item before you can share it.
- Deleting a safe on this phone removes it here. Safes you already shared stay unchanged.
- Notes can be exported for yourself with Share as PDF or Share as plain text.
